Source : Yahoo AnswersQuestion : Is it against Catholic teachings to read your horoscope?

Answer by Orange Smith
Not really, it is against what they say, however, they are viewed as less “evil” today than they were. The Catholic church is just against them because it gets people into the “psychics and black-arts exist” type of mindset. Not to mention that horoscopes are mostly bogus, and the ones that are “real” are “stretched”.

Answer by entermyworld59
According to my Sunday school teacher it is.

Answer by Independent Centrist
No, it isn’t a sin to just read it.

However, you would probably be risking a sin if you actually believed what it says.

Answer by a6kl2
Actually, the church ENCOURAGES stupidity.

Answer by olderman
The three wise men are believed to be astrologers.

I don’t put much weight on horoscopes. To me they are
an amusement.

Answer by JAMES K
Every horoscope published in the papers is just a set of good suggestions but have nothing to do with you. They assume that every 1/12 of the planet is exactly the same.
The Church pretty much ignores horoscopes, as they are simply random suggestions. Read all of them for all the difference they make.

I do not believe horoscope.
I do not believe religions and their preachings as they are all bundle of lies.

Answer by King Andrew
Peace in Christ! The Catholic Church expressly forbids the use of horoscopes and other methods for divination of the future. She positively exhorts us to love God with all of our hearts, souls, and minds (cf. Mt. 22:37) and to follow the first three Commandments (see Catechism of the Catholic Church [Catechism], nos. 2052-2195). Most people will see in these teachings the implication that we should not play with those things that can take us away from God. In spite of this, some of the faithful need the guidance of pastoral statements.
Bishop Donald W. Montrose of the Diocese of Stockton, now retired, wrote a pastoral letter titled Spiritual Warfare: The Occult Has Demonic Influence. In it he had this to say about astrology and horoscopes:
Jeremiah 10:2—Thus says the Lord: Learn not the customs of the pagans and have no fear of the signs of the heavens, though the pagans fear them. By studying the stars and planets an astrologer casts a horoscope on the basis of the month and the day of an individual’s birth. The horoscope is a prediction of events likely to occur in a person’s life based upon the movement of the stars and planets. Even though millions of people follow horoscopes with greater or lesser interest, this is still a type of fortune telling. Even if you say you do not believe in horoscopes, and only read your own for fun, you should abandon this practice. The daily horoscope can easily influence us from time to time. It is a way in which we open ourselves to the occult. If you want to live in the Kingdom of God, renounce horoscopes and all other means of fortune telling. Any playing cards, Ouija boards, or other things used for fortune telling should be destroyed.
In addition to the pastoral warning, there are two good arguments for avoiding use of the horoscope for entertainment purposes. The first is that it validates the existence of the horoscopes. Horoscopes exist primarily for decision-making purposes and, as such, they limit human freedom which only truly is complete in God. People who use the horoscopes for other purposes still “vote” through their demand for a daily printing. If asked whether they read horoscopes, their truthful answer must be, “yes, but….” That “yes” gives the horoscope legitimacy. The second argument is that continuous exposure to the occult can desensitize a person to some degree, making them more susceptible to subtly misleading ideas. Just as pain helps protect us physically and modesty helps protect our purity, we should have some acuity with regard to superstition and irreligion (Catechism, no. 2110).

the evil cathlic cult needs to be closed down for TAX EVASION !!!! … asap .. !

Answer by Baptist
To merely read without any committed belief in astrological opinions is not a sin and so not against Catholic Teachings. However, nothing should replace our Faith in God Who has all that concerns the Faithful in His Plans. Therefore, I think that to read horoscopes beond a purely superficial level of entertainment or curiosity would be against Catholic teachings. However,It should be noted that the level of Astrology as presumably practised by the ‘Three Wise Men’, remains an exception to any offense to Catholic teachings on the matter of Faith.

Answer by Henry
No, I read them for fun. The horoscope writer in my paper is REALLY funny.

Answer by Fullness of the Truth!
From the Catechism:

2111 Superstition is the deviation of religious feeling and of the practices this feeling imposes. It can even affect the worship we offer the true God, e.g., when one attributes an importance in some way magical to certain practices otherwise lawful or necessary. To attribute the efficacy of prayers or of sacramental signs to their mere external performance, apart from the interior dispositions that they demand, is to fall into superstition.41

2115 God can reveal the future to his prophets or to other saints. Still, a sound Christian attitude consists in putting oneself confidently into the hands of Providence for whatever concerns the future, and giving up all unhealthy curiosity about it. Improvidence, however, can constitute a lack of responsibility.

2116 All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to “unveil” the future.48 Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.

2117 All practices of magic or sorcery, by which one attempts to tame occult powers, so as to place them at one’s service and have a supernatural power over others – even if this were for the sake of restoring their health – are gravely contrary to the virtue of religion. These practices are even more to be condemned when accompanied by the intention of harming someone, or when they have recourse to the intervention of demons. Wearing charms is also reprehensible. Spiritism often implies divination or magical practices; the Church for her part warns the faithful against it. Recourse to so-called traditional cures does not justify either the invocation of evil powers or the exploitation of another’s credulity.

Answer by imacatholic2
Pretty much.

Catholic Church teaches:

All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to “unveil” the future.

Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers.

They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.

Answer by sparki777
Read it? No. Giving it any importance at all would be a sin, though. Anyway, horoscopes are just a big sham.

Answer by Frau Asher /JPA/ Heathen
answer: No ethical Wiccan, pagan or witch would even think of giving you one. Would you want someone to do a spell against your will? No, then don’t do it against someone else.

You want to attract someone, do it the old fashioned way.

Love spells backfire and are unethical.

Answer by dogpatch USA
pheromones ?

Answer by iusethisforeverything
“Love” potions usally don’t work, but a cheesy gift of a little bottle full of grape juice and a little poem about *poof* making them love you is often rather flattering and creative.

I also remember the superstition of “marry-me chicken”, some recipe you should feed your beau if you want him to marry you. I think the idea was the recipe was so good that he’d realize he can’t live without your cooking! lol.

Love spells and potions aren’t something learned witches are gonna give you (I mean, I know some, and I used one, but i eventually felt bad and told him. Lo and behold, we’re still together though.), so I really wouldn’t bother. Beside, love potions would be hard to get your crush to drink, don’t you think? You’d already have to be really close to them to get them to consume it.

So yeah, Love potions and spells are bad and controlling, mmk?

✰✪✰ In 2010, I predicted the exact date of the August 23, 2011 – Mineral, Virginia 5.8 magnitude earthquake that rocked the entire East Coast of the United States and up through Canada creating more than $300 million dollars in damage.
I had also seen a fantastic amount of water, coming in shortly thereafter. I therefore notified the appropriate government authorities to warn them.
17 Hours after the quake, Hurricane Irene made landfall less than 300 miles from the epicenter of the Earthquake.
Damage estimates from this hurricane, throughout the United States were near $19.6 billion dollars, which made it the 5th costliness hurricane in United States history
The coastlines were evacuated and lives were saved because of this prediction and appropriate warnings.
